This morning we got up like every other Monday, and sent the spawn off to school. Thirty minutes later, the kid returned home covered in sweat and funk. Ends up there was no school today. Epic parental fail at reading the school calender.
So, we used the day to run some chores and see a movie. I documented our World of Warcraft discussion in the car. Lots of fun.

On this week’s Rawrcast show we discuss Haf’s exciting success with the the 10-man Sarth 3-D Zerg strategy and whether or not it should be considered an exploit, the feasibility of doing a 25-man version of the strat, why WoW is better because there are more WoW Girl Gamers than ever!
We also disected a blue post with fill-in the blank theorys regarding the next planned expansion, resulting in the first ever Blue Post Mad-Libs. Stomp has planned a new class of Cyborg Sluts, and Haf has a bitter old man expansion with new swirly graphics and a side of meat 2-handed mace. Hit up our new forums and post your own version of what the next expansion could possibly be.
All of this, and much, much more is available for your listening pleasure via iTunes, RSS feed, download, or you can stream it from our main page.
In an extended effort to create more interaction with YOU, our listeners, we have developed the show discussion forums. We want to hear from you about topics we discuss on the show, topics you want to hear more about, recommendations for guest you would like to hear from, and anything else you are raring to discuss with like-minded WoW-heads!
And, here’s the first contest we are hosting on the forums: April 25th our special guest will be Turpster from the WoW Insider Show and Massively.com. If that wasn’t exciting enough, we will also play “Who’s the Boss”; a WoW boss trivia game show type of thing… And YOU can play!
To participate, register and log in on our forums, and post an MS Paint drawning of YOUR TOON! A winner will be selected and asked to participate in our game show on April 25th with The T! So, get to painting!
Also, next week is the DFW WoW Squad Meetup out at the Grapevine Main Event, Haf and I will be there! Will you? If you are a listener in the DFW area, make sure to sign-up for the DFW WoW Squad and reference “RAWR” to enter and win a FREE $25 JINX gift card. Check here for details!

Hey Rawrcast Fans,
I’ve been struggling to settle on a topic to write on as a means of introducing myself to you good folk. I’ve wrestled with ideas ranging from ‘don’t blame the tank’ to ‘setting up your guild: what to look out for’ and other such things but then it dawned on me, why not simply introduce myself and give you a little background on who I am before I launch into these other topics.
So here goes. My name is Mike, I play a Dwarf warrior named Melkejal on the EU realm Dunemaul. I’ve been the Guild leader to Acta non Verba for the past couple of years and in that time we cleared Black temple in TBC and are now drumming our fingers in frustration as we wait on Ulduar.
I play the role of Main tank in our raiding setup and during the Crusade I had a Disc. Priest that I took into the arenas. Since Wrath has come along I haven’t felt the urge to roll my priest up to 80 but I’m sure that will come and hopefully some stories will come from that too.
I picked up WoW just over three years ago; I resisted the game for about a year after its release. I played Guild Wars and mocked those that paid a monthly subscription to play a game, such fools I thought. Well here I am having thrown over £300 into Blizzard’s kitty but do I regret it, hells no! Warcraft had me hooked from the moment I dropped into Dun Morogh and started laying the law down on those ratty little troggs!
I was fortunate to be leveling alongside a good friend of mine who showed me the ropes and held my hand round Azeroth. I was constantly amazed by the sheer size of the game, the breadth of the landscape and the diversity of the art style. The land teemed with players and was abundant with life, raiders stomping around in their epic gear that gleamed and crackled with pure exuberance. In short, WoW reeled me in and I’ve not looked back since.
I was part of a social guild that laid the foundation to a great community which eventually threw itself into the flames of guild drama but out of the ashes I rebuilt Acta non Verba. Today we stick to our casual approach to the game but we back it up with a dedicated effort to raid which has seen us climb into the top ten guild list on our server which we were proud to achieve.
Outside of Wow I run my own little podcast called The Combobulater which was recently added to the Virginworlds MMO Podcast Collective and our last show starred Stomp and Haf! It’s a casual cast that looks to discuss WoW related issues and delves into other gaming topics and generally whatever else happens to be buzzing in our bonnet. I’ve harboured the ambition to regularly contribute to a blog but I find it difficult to set aside the time to commit to the undertaking. Hopefully, if Stomp and Haf can abide my ramblings I can form a writing habit on this site and throw my random thoughts your way!
So there you have it, my blogging cherry laid on a platter for you! I shall look to bring something a little more focused to my next effort but in the meantime it’s been a pleasure to introduce myself and I look forward to seeing what comes next. A big thanks to Stomp and Haf for offering me this opportunity,

The Start It was a night that started off like many others recently. I was running laps around the middle of Dalaran, putting Baron Rivendare’s mount through it’s paces. That’s when things took a turn.
“You want to try to kill Sartharion before the drakes, whelps and lava spawns overwhelm us?”, asks Kinderfeld, one our guild officers.
“That sounds like it could be fun. I’ll go.”
I was a bit surprised to see that Kinder and I were the only two from our guild, but was relieved to see some familiar names from the best Horde guilds on the server. This certainly wasn’t a pick up group like most others. These were some heavy hitters, more or less hand picked by the RL and his friends. I know it sounds funny, but I felt pretty honored to be a part of it.
I know my gear is okay and my spec is solid. I’ve picked up jewelcrafting to eek out a bit more dps with the JC only gems and I have a couple of extra slots on my gear from blacksmithing… so all in all I feel alright, but I know I’m not the best player that ever played the game by any stretch. I always get this weird feeling that I’m going to get blown out of the water by another DK. It happens. There are a lot of players out there that are just plain better than I am, but I’m not so much worried about not finishing at the top of the dps meters… it’s more a matter of not wanting to be a liability in what is a very dps intensive fight. So, I just hope I make a good showing of myself (and my guild since Kinder asked me to come).
So, we get to Wyrmrest and start going over the strategy. Kill Sarth before we die. I like simple strats.
The Strat Basically, we’re going to run to the back of the instance and aggro him from the SW corner of his island. Kinder will tank him so that he faces north and is parallel to the lava at the west side of the island. When a flame wall comes from the north, we just have to step back into the lava as it passes. If it comes from the south, we just have to step under Sartharian. Other than that, just avoid the void spawns and stay alive… and dps our ever-loving guts out. We have to dps him down as quickly as possible because at about 90 seconds he goes immune because of the buffs from the drakes.
We decided to stack the group with melee so that we could all supplement each other in regards to buffs and such to up the dps output. We used Army of Dead whenever we had it available and got to a point where we would wait a few minutes between attempts for at least one of us DK’s to have it available because it was alot of help. We also used flasks and food buffs for every attempt and speed potions as well.
At the start we had an arcane mage in the group and unfortunately, we didn’t compliment him at all and his dps was nowhere near what he would normally do in a 25 man. Even though we were able to get Sarth to 5% on one attempt, he decided to step out and we nabbed Trads, one of our guild rogues to step in.
What Made It Magical I can’t say this was a remarkable group because we instantly clicked and we one shot, Sarth… that’s just not how it went. What made this a group that I will likely never forget is the fact that, wipe after wipe (3 hours worth or so) there was no flaming or finger pointing. There was no complaining about having to use flasks or pots or food buffs. There was no talk about doing it with 2 drakes just to be done with it. It was 10 guys focused on achieving something difficult that were willing to help the others anyway they could, no questions asked.
At one point, I had run out of fish feasts and we were talking about what to do for another attempt. Sunderhoof (a fury warrior from Exiled) and I decided to go fish up some Dragonfin Angelfish while we waited for another Bloodlust/Army of Dead cooldown to be available. Speed potions were being handed out as well as flasks… people were going to the AH and getting whatever we were short on and it didn’t matter that no one told them to. It was needed and it was done.
The Crew! (alphabetically) Adrad: Arcane Mage (wasn’t in on the kill, stepped out for someone else) Dycella: Combat Rogue Hafrot: Blood DK Kinderfeld: Feral Druid (Bear) Ragromuda: Enhancement Shaman Reiaku: Discipline Priest Rival: Feral Druid (wasn’t in on the kill, had to call it a night) Shikei: Frost/Unholy DK Siba: Feral Druid (Cat) Southcentral: Blood DK Sunderhoof: Fury Warrior Trads: Assassination Rogue
I have to say that even though that it was the most wiping I’ve done since the Bad Clam Purge of ’06, I had a GREAT TIME!!! 10 people of the same mind focused on a difficult task. It didn’t matter that most of us had never played together before. We understood what our job was and did everything we could to do it to the best of our ability. We found a synergy and it was a great way to spend the evening. I can tell you it was tough by how giddy we all were once we got Sarth down.
I want to thank all of the guys that went to that run and to tell them that if they ever need a nub DK helping out with dps, they can always send me a tell and I will help out if I can.
Kinderfeld threw together a video of the kill. ENJOY!!
p.s. That’s me with the star over my head. I didn’t notice it the first 25 times I watched the video.

This week’s special episode of Epic Dolls featured a great discussion about raiding in World of Warcraft. Along with Leala and Kat, we all represented three varied levels of commitment. Leala Turkey carried the casual raiding end of things, Salty Katerina talked through the intermediate level of raiding, and I rounded out the “hardcore” raiding end of things.
We talked through the varied perspectives when it comes to raiding, what people get out of raiding, and varied aspects of what players put into raiding. It was interesting to bounce ideas around, and peek in at raiding through other people’s eyes.
