Backpacking around Azeroth: Redridge Mountains

Hey Rawrcast fans,
Duties at the Argent Tournament have kept me busy but with my stripes earned I am back on the road in my efforts to tour Azeroth. I take up this cause with even more vigour than before after whispers of catastophic changes predicted for our humble land started to to tour the taverns. I dismissed these as nonesense, but upon returning to Azeroth there is something in the air that tickles the nape of your neck…
Glad to put Blackrock mountain to my back I shall skip through the Burning Steppe and lead us on into Redridge Mountain. The first contested zone that young Alliance adventurers are likely to come across; I still recall the nervous excitement that rolled in my belly as I took my first steps into this zone. Infested with orcs, meddlesome murlocs and gnolls, travellers would do well to exercise caution and stick to the roads.
Lakeshire
Lakeshire is a peaceful town resting on the bank of Lake Everstill. The Stormwind guards do their best to keep the orcs at bay whilst Magistrate Solomon is always on the lookout for adventurors eager to lend a hand. The lake itself is crystal clear and still as a sleeping baby, but don’t let that fool you! Anyone on the hunt for murlocs here should keep an eye out for the famed beastie below, many have been dragged to the depths by this monstrosity!
Following the lake east will lead you to Stonewatch Keep, once the stonghold of the humans here it fell into the hands of the Blackrock Orcs during the early conflicts with the horde. The Blackrock Orcs spotted their opportunity to strike and took up arms under the rule of Nefarian; with few left to defend the keep the its loss was inevitible. Magistrate Solomon will pay a hefy sum to anyone that can claim the scalp to Gath’Ilzogg and Tharil’zun who continue to harass the people of Redridge.
Morganth Vs. Theocritus
Moving further east and the air buzzes with the hum of magic. The Tower of Ilgalar is home to the mage Morganth, who was banished from Stormwind long ago. Drawn to the dark arts the mage stole the famous book ‘Ur’s Treatsie on Shadow magic’ and fled to the tower where he now holds influence over the shadowhide gnolls. Stormwind scholars fear that Morganth might find a way to open this book and learn its powers; Theocritus found in Elwynn forest will aid your cause against the twisted mage should you take up the fight. Furthermore, you can help our good friend Magistrate Solomon by seeking out the infamous Fangore, bring his paw back to the town for a worthy reward.

Follow the road south from here and you will come across Stonewatch Falls. Here is a great spot for any fan of wildlife with the local Murloc population gathered at the lake’s terminus. From a good vantage point you can watch these fascinating creatures hunt, fish and gather up supplies for their crude encampments. Be careful though, these creatures have been known to bite if you get too close and if aggravated their instinct is to swarm which can prove most disastrous!

Take the road west from the falls and you will conclude the tour of Redridge Mountians – a neat circular route. In the south-west corner we are presented with the crossroads known as the ‘Three Corners’. Be sure to say hi to Guard Parks who keeps a determined vigil in these parts, and from here you have a choice in your travels. West will take you into Elwynn Forest, home to the town of Goldshire on the borders of Stormwind. East will take you back toward Lakeshire where the inn will provide you with a fine ale and the freshest catch of the day. My next entry though will travel South into Duskwood as we explore the troubled history of Darkshire.

Be sure to join me and thanks for reading!
