The Earthen Ring; Where are the Ajahs?

September 14, 2009 :: Posted by - Rhabella :: Category - Lore

While listening the weekly pod cast of But Wait, There’s Lore, I heard Pride & Omacron talk a little about Thrall as the new Guardian of Tirisfal. They still, even after the expansion announcement, are convinced the reports of Thrall becoming the new guardian are a bit out of place. They go onto talk about Thrall and how his involvement in the Earthen Ring is a much more likely avenue for Cataclysm to explore.

Ajahs

Like the Aes Sedai in Robert Jordan’s the Wheel of Time, the Earthen Ring could be broken into sub-groups like the similar to the Ajahs.***Note: I only notice similarities, but they are pretty striking given what we know about each race.***

Each Ajah has a single purpose, and they could easily be tied to the races.

This week Stomp and Haf visit all things Beer related, in-game and out. In preparation for this month’s Brewfest World Event, Stomp gives a preview of the achievements, eludes to possible changes from last year, and revisits memories of years past.

Additionally, the live chat room was floored at Stomp’s news of the week, and had loads of questions relating to beer that drew personal reflection from the happy couple.

Petition for the Gnomes

September 11, 2009 :: Posted by - Rhabella :: Category - Class Discussion

I started a petition for gnome paladins after seeing a post here and there on the official forums. I love both the gnomes and the paladin class and was hoping they too could be empowered with holy wrath, but Blizzcon came and went with no such luck. We know Blizzard listens to the fans. Cataclysm is also far enough out that a grass roots movement just might inspire Blizzard to give the shorties just a little more love. Don’t be afraid to sign the petition and spread the rawr.
Anyone who has listened to TotalBiscuit knows how he feels about video game lore. Like him, I have to agree, “IT’S JUST A GAME!” I like the story involved in WoW, but it’s not Tolkien or Jordan. In fact, I read one interview ages ago with Robert Jordan and remember him saying he had notes piled up on his desk when writing. He had to have mountains of notations to keep track of the world he created because he knew his fans were reading every word and looking for clues to the story. A violation of lore in Jordan’s world could cause countless debate and confused fans as the story is woven together one epic novel after the other. Read more…

Chocolate Covered Broccoli

September 10, 2009 :: Posted by - Rhabella :: Category - Class Discussion

When a ret paladin sees some gear with armor penetration, most just think meh. It’s not the greatest stat for a ret pally, and it’s not the greatest stat for some other classes. As Prentice pointed out on an MMO Champion thread, “Regardless of how well ArP scales, the simple fact is that ArP only affects 35-40% of your total damage. Ret paladins already have the best armor penetration in the game in shape of Holy damage. 60-65% of our damage is holy and as such completely negates all armor the target has.”

By Ghostcrawler’s own admission, ArP wasn’t really that popular when Lich launched, and Blizzard realized the player base wasn’t willing to stomach a stat that wasn’t really all that sexy. So they buffed it. 3.1 brought about a 25% buff to ArP. Let’s liken this to you feeding your kids broccoli, but they refuse to eat it. You, in all of your parental wisdom, think maybe if you soak that broccoli in sweet chocolately goodness, then they will scarf down the veggies. When supervised, this isn’t that horrible of a compromise, but the danger comes when you walk away from the table and leave the syrup within reach. Read more…

Don’t Be Afraid, The Battlegrounds Are Calling!

September 08, 2009 :: Posted by - Inquisitor :: Category - PVP

In a recent post I made reference to running the battlegrounds (bg’s) as a lowbie and some of the benefits. I thought today it would be best if I delved further into this subject and really addressed the bg’s issue in this post and for those of you that read my posts for levels 35-70, I will also be addressing the bg’s for those levels this weekend.

At the 1-35 levels there are only 2 bg’s that you can get into: Arathi Basin and Warsong Gulch. The first bg that low level characters can jump into is Warsong Gulch. You can make access starting at level 10 and continue to battle through the rest of the game. This will most likely be your first experience in WOW battlegrounds.

Backpacking around Azeroth: Redridge Mountains

September 07, 2009 :: Posted by - Emeny :: Category - Other

Hey Rawrcast fans,
Duties at the Argent Tournament have kept me busy but with my stripes earned I am back on the road in my efforts to tour Azeroth. I take up this cause with even more vigour than before after whispers of catastophic changes predicted for our humble land started to to tour the taverns. I dismissed these as nonesense, but upon returning to Azeroth there is something in the air that tickles the nape of your neck…
Glad to put Blackrock mountain to my back I shall skip through the Burning Steppe and lead us on into Redridge Mountain. The first contested zone that young Alliance adventurers are likely to come across; I still recall the nervous excitement that rolled in my belly as I took my first steps into this zone. Infested with orcs, meddlesome murlocs and gnolls, travellers would do well to exercise caution and stick to the roads. Read more…
