Beginning My Lore Interest

I don’t know about all of you, but it seems like the majority of the people playing the game today are not really interested in the lore behind the game. I know that I was one of those people for the longest time. I read the quests and picked up some of the lore here and there, but there are always people you play with or in your guild that are the WOW Lore Historians.
I was never one of them, which is sort of funny since I actually have bachelors and masters degrees in History. The history of the game has never really interested me, until of late. Recently, I have been getting a little more into the lore and thought I should learn a little more about the game that I love.
To that I discovered a great way to get some of that lore and I decided to tell all of you about it. One of the ways is to get some of the achievements that are available out there. The Higher Learning achievement has you read some books that are rare spawns in Dalaran. The books are on the schools of Arcane Magic. I have managed to get to one of them, but I still have a ways to go to get the set, especially since there are 8 of them.

Another way, also in books, is to take the time to run Scarlett Monastery and read the available books in the library part of the monastery. As you run through this section you will notice that there are some individual books on tables, the floor, and other places. If you move your mouse over the book, then the mouse becomes a magnifying glass. Well that magnifying glass, as many of you already know, means you can read what’s in that book.
Now, in the past I would go out of my way to not read any of these books unless I had to for a quest. On a recent run through I decided to take some time to read a couple and they were interesting. There is a wide variety of books on many different subjects available in SM. For example these are the books I found and read while I was in there:
Civil War of the Plagueland
Kel’Thuzad and the Forming of the Scourge
Icecrown and the Frozen Throne
The Scourge of Lordaeron
They were all very interesting and worth my time.
Now for those of you that want the great accomplishment and achievement you can go after the title Loremaster. I for one doubt I will ever do this. There is so much work involved and I am not that interested, but then before I wasn’t interested at all, so we will have to wait and see.
My advice for anyone that might be interested in the lore is to take the time to run SM and see if the books will start you down a path towards Loremaster. And if anyone asks why you are doing it, tell them: the Inquisitor told you to Just Do It.
