Winter’s Veil Starts Tomorrow!

December 14, 2009 :: Posted by - Ozimandias :: Category - World Events

Just a friendly reminder that the snowball fights in Ironforge are going to break out again tomorrow as Winter’s Veil starts again. This is a really fun holiday, and I dare to say that it is my favorite! I stock up on snowballs and bust them out in raids in July, just to remind everyone on how much I really like Winter’s Veil. I highly suggest getting the PVP part done quickly. Playing as a hunter this time around is going to be easier than the DK was last year, but somehow, I got it in just one shot in AV. Maybe I will get lucky again this year.

What do you think of PVP requirements in holidays? Personally, I love to PVP, but many don’t. Read more…

Recruitment

December 14, 2009 :: Posted by - Plectical :: Category - Guilds, Other, PVE

My guild is currently in the midst of a recruitment drive which has raised some interesting questions about how applicants are judged. I’m placed in a unique position since I recently went through the application process and was admitted as a full time member to the guild. Part of my full membership benefits is engaging in the review process for new applicants on our guild forums.

All names are going to remain anonymous but the one applicant in particular has caused a modest stir. This applicant’s first run with the guild was met with mediocre reviews. He was, as a reviewing member wrote, “Grumpy, aloof and not a team player.” I was in the first run with this player and what I noticed was not surprising at all. This player was quiet and reserved because he literally knew NO ONE in the guild and we were running a progression raid in Heroic TOC 25 that required everyone’s full and undivided attention. I think anyone would be a little quiet with a brand new group and a tremendous amount of pressure to be at the top of your game. Read more…

Naked chicks, wrist cramps, WoW and You

December 12, 2009 :: Posted by - Ozimandias :: Category - Other

Adrianne CurryOk, so I have to admit, I ran across this on the 6th, and being a bad editor, I am only now getting it up now. In my defense, my hands and wrists just now recovered long enough to get back on my trusty laptop. It was a long couple of weeks for me, and now that this 175 page paper is over with, and I am graduating on Friday, I can do things like oogle over hot gamer chicks, play WoW and act like an editor again. Now, back to the hot-ass chick that plays WoW.

3.3 Set to launch tomorrow

December 07, 2009 :: Posted by - Ozimandias :: Category - Other

3.3 pallyWow.com is reporting that patch 3.3 is set to drop tomorrow, Tuesday December 8th. Considering that I just finished up a 175 Page project today, and I am finally done with college as an undergrad, I say bring it on.

What are you most looking forward to doing once you get your furry paws on 3.3?

The BGs Are Getting A Little More Fun – Level 34

December 05, 2009 :: Posted by - Inquisitor :: Category - Other, PVP

New WTF Noob logo
Well 34 was a little better than 32 and 33, but I am seriously questioning my decision to try this.  What was I thinking?  Am I a jackass?  I think I have realized that when people say they leveled up in the Battlegrounds (BGs), they are either masochists or they do a combination of BGs and questing.  For these people the BGs may be the primary means of leveling, but they are also getting a huge infusion of experience from questing while they are waiting for the BGs.

There have been many times where I had to wait 20+ minutes to get into one of the two BGs that are available at this level.  This is a slow process when you are not questing. That is how I know that most of the people who claim to have leveled a number of levels in the BGs also supplemented them with questing. Let me just put it this way; leveling in BGs without any supplementing takes either extreme patience or you’re as crazy as a loon. Read more…

Keep Your PVP Out of My PVE

December 03, 2009 :: Posted by - Plectical :: Category - Other

I’m not sure if everyone has seen the Faction Champions fight in Heroic TOGC (25 Man) yet but it’s a dozy. My guild pulled a marathon wipe session last night that left everyone weary and grumbling around 12 AM. What was clear at the end of the night was that there was a small group of players who knew what they were doing and everyone else was pretty much lost.

From time to time in raiding, you’ll come across a fight that heavily tests your PVP skills. It’s an odd marriage since many hardcore PVE raiders don’t necessarily PVP with the same gusto. In practical terms, that means your crack hardcore raiding team is about as useful in this fight as a box of hair.

The confusing part about these PVP encounters is that it tests skills that in most raid encounters would be useless. Thoughtful strategy and in depth raid positioning are valued less than improvisation and positioning on the fly. Its the equivalent of finding a philosophy problem on your calculus test, it just doesn’t fit. After all, you don’t see challenging raid encounters popping up in Warsong Gulch.

Ultimately, if raiders want to PVP we’ll go into BGS or arenas. Blizzard, please keep your PVP out of my PVE.
