The Raid: Movie Project

January 14, 2010 :: Posted by - Stompalina :: Category - Community, PVE, Raiding

A guild member sent me a link to a promotional video put together by the producers of a new World of Warcraft documentary that is currently in the early stages of production. It is called The Raid, and from the look and feel of the early video, it will be a great representation of the life, love and passion behind the players and guilds within World of Warcraft.

Rawrcast has already made a contribution to support the planned production of the film, and I would recommend that others do the same. By supporting the film you not only are a part of production of the movie, but there are also membership benefits like donor status on TankSpot.com, movie posters, production notes, etc.

I am excited to see who all is involved onscreen and behind the scenes. With the support of our amazing online community, this is bound to be an amazing representations of our lives in-game, and our love of raiding.

The Plague Works

January 13, 2010 :: Posted by - Plectical :: Category - PVE

Last week, my guild and I joined what I am sure was literally thousands of other guilds as we stepped foot inside the recently opened Plague Works of Icecrown Citadel. We’ve steamrolled the first four bosses in the Lower Spire as we worked our way towards the new content. We worked as a well oiled machine, properly dps’ing down the adds in Lady Deathwhisper and picking up achievements on Saurfang as well as Lord Marrowgar. Spirits were high as we stepped into the Plague Works.

And that’s where our momentum ended. No one in the guild has a character on the PTR so, other than the early strategies that were posted on TankSpot, we went into the instance essentially blind. It was thrilling to see our tank pull the first mobs and then over vent remark, “Well, that’s certainly interesting. I wonder what that does?” We wiped several times on trash learning specifically what the capabilities of the mobs where, discovering the proper way to pull, and figuring out the best positions for healers and dps. Episode 53: The Lost Episode

January 12, 2010 :: Posted by - Stompalina :: Category - Podcast

Due to horrible fate and technical issues, Episode 53 will not be released via the traditional RSS feed, but it will be posted here on our website for those that wish to brave the terrors of rice krispy audio. The show was worth salvaging… After all, we did have two special guests on this, our 1 year anniversary episode, and another rousing addition of “Who’s the Boss”.

Despite the stress, I was lucky enough to have a lovely conversation with Turpster and TotalBiscuit regarding current news surrounding World of Warcraft, personal changes for both, and their future within the podcasting and gaming community. If you can hold out through end of the show, we had a listener question regarding blogging and news source creditability that is sure to garner some interest.

C’mon Blizz where is my Worgen?

January 08, 2010 :: Posted by - Ozimandias :: Category - Cataclysm, Community, Other

Worgen! My poor rogue.  She was parked at the end of BC after leveling my dwarf priest to 70 through instance after instance. It was at the time very hard to get raid slots as a somewhat poorly geared rogue. “We need a healer” became my mating call and out went my priest, leaving my rogue abandoned and alone. Then I started a DK,  leveling BS, mining, fishing, cooking and first aid to max level, and now I am leveling a hunter. I want to play my human rogue, but it seems stupid considering that I absolutely can’t wait to level a Worgen rogue. This past weekend I looked to see if there was any new information on the Worgen.

I have not found any new information on the new classes since the announcement hit Blizzcon. NONE in over four months. What is up with this? Despite the new content, the DF, and the virtual loot giveaway it enables, I have noticed something in the community as a whole. It appears to be falling apart. Read more…

LFG

January 05, 2010 :: Posted by - Plectical :: Category - PVE

LFG

So I figure an apology is in order. I was gone, I’m back, I’m sorry. Yes I missed you, no it was me, not you. Here’s a tissue, feeling better? Wonderful, let’s talk WoW.

I’ve been having an absolute blast tanking on my Death Knight using the new LFG system. I usually step into the game, quickly repair my armor, and then queue up as a tank for the random daily dungeon. Groups are usually mixed. Sometimes the healing is there and the dps is missing, some runs my tanking skills aren’t up to par. Regardless of the group or its performance, I usually always walk away with a slew of badges for new gear.

Gearing at the current rate has been like playing WOW on speed. My abilities and survivability as a tank are directly proportional to the number of instances I run. I specifically attribute this to the number of instances run and not the number of badges I receive because each random dungeon is a fertile training ground with a new set of circumstances to troubleshoot. Group makeup, low heals, slow dps, bad pulls, agro issues; I’ve seen it all and learned appropriate responses to each. I feel that this has helped to make me a better tank at least as much as Badge Gear has. Read more…

Episode 52: Rumble Down Under

January 04, 2010 :: Posted by - Stompalina :: Category - Podcast

This week Haf and Stomp muddle through the tail of the holiday season with much success. Bound’s raiding bench came through big time as the guild downed Sarufang. However, filling the rest of the raid with Ulduar hard modes proved to be more than most had interest in doing.

Also, this week Haf and Stomp address a flurry of listener e-mails surrounding last week’s loot drama, and give explanation to Bound’s solution for the issue moving forward.

This and much more is available for your listening pleasure via iTunes, RSS feed, direct download, or you can stream it from our main page.

Happy New Year! Blizzard wants your money!

January 01, 2010 :: Posted by - Ozimandias :: Category - Community, Other

I for one have never really understood the idea of paying real money for virtual items. Just 5 years ago, this would never have crossed the mind of the average person. As we enter 2010, (and yes I understand that this is not a new decade–I think, DAMN YOU TRADE CHANNEL) we are going to take a quick look at this concept and how it might impact the World of Warcraft.

The very first time that I can remember paying money for a virtual item was back in 2006. It was the geniuses at Micro$oft that made the process easy. In fact they employ a tactic used in casinos for ages. What casinos do is convert your greenbacks to something that you really don’t have a whole lot invested in, plastic chips. If you think about it, it is easier to hand over a black plastic chip that says $100 than it is to actually see your 5 $20 bills out there acting all scared and stuff. Read more…
