ICC

So last night I managed to catch up with the rest of my guild and down Professor Putricide in 25 man ICC. After the fight was finished, it occurred to me that our regular 25 man roster had passed a certain threshold. Our tanks were surviving much longer, our healers were cranking out huge numbers and the raid wide DPS was very high. It looks like we’ve been exposed to enough ICC and Frost Badges so that everyone has received several upgrades. We had hit the tipping point where it now appears likely that we’ll be doing the Lich King in the very near future.

Which brings me back to the days of yesteryear when Sunwell Plateau first came out. As I recall it, even the most exceptionally geared players had an extraordinarily difficult time making their way through that instance. Progress was made even slower by the fact that there was no entry level wing designed to introduce players to the much more difficult content, you simply were dropped in front of a massive DPS check boss.

ICC in comparison stands out as a huge step forward in Blizzard’s end game raiding philosophy. The philosophy being, ease players in so they don’t slam full speed into a content wall. I preferred the way Blizzard unwrapped ICC week after week, allowing players a few weeks to master one wing before opening the next. How does everyone else feel about the delayed content release versus simply throwing the gates open?
