A look at life after the fall of the Lich King (Spoiler Alert)

The following is a look into the end-game implications revealed from the fall of the Lich King from a guest writer. It is full of spoilers and if you don’t want to ruin the encounter don’t click through. Remember-You Have Been Warned!

Hello everyone,

This is Veron from Genco Pura. There was a question asked since the new cinematic came out, about what the future might hold for our new Lich King.I am actually glad this question was asked; since watching the video I have been wondering a few things myself and after educating a guildie who was a bit of a Lore Noob, I came to these possible conclusions:

A. Bolvar will be a wise and good Lich King. (I know sounds almost childish but I make a case for it in my reasoning)

B. While Bolvar sleeps, the Scourge will probably continue as is without the need to spread; they are contained.

C. We may see Bolvar “awake” if and when we go after Kil’ Jaedon & Sargerous.

My evidence is based upon the book Arthas, a questline in Icecrown, the video cinematic and finally Warcraft III, The Frozen Throne. I will be pulling from them in chronological order.

1. In WC III, TFT we see Arthas, now a Deathknight, ascending the Throne, where  Ner’Zhuel has led him, to free and claim the armor of the Lich King. As the Helm of Domination is lowered onto his head The Silver helm causes his eyes to glow an unsettling shade of Azure.

2. Fast-forward to Icecrown when we entered Northrend and you will remember the Wrathgate, where Bolvar fell and the Dragons of Alexstraza’s Red Flight came and purged the plague from the area with fire.

3. Moving forward some might remember a long quest chain in Icecrown from Crusader’s Pinnacle, which leads you to a Paladin infected by the scourge and slowly becoming one of them. During a point in that chain you are asked to go to Alexstraza and see if she can help the Paladin. Alexstraza enables you to breath her fire upon the paladin and hopefully purge the plague.

4 . The Book “Arthas” had a rather interesting ending where Arthas, in his dreamscape, was seated at the head of a table with a sickly boy to one side (His Fading humanity) and an aging Orc Shaman on his other side (The Voice of Ner’Zhuel.) In the end he thrusts Frostmourne through the boy, and then through a clearly shocked Shaman. If it is accepted then Ner’Zhuel is gone and dead… (Meaning the lich King has only one mind) then that leaves Arthas the DeathKnight.

5. Skip to the present. Arthas is dead and Tirion is considering placing the helm on his own head… Bolvar stops him and tells him that The Dragon’s fire has finished him. Earthly things can no longer comfort him.  Now Bolvar is a Paladin filled with the power of the Light, and he has been purged by fire of the Lifebender. As Alexstraza gave her breath to you to help the infected paladin, is it not possible that her offspring who helped her purge the plague at the Wrathgate might not do the same thing.

Looking at it that way you might reinterpret Bolvar’s Line to mean that he no longer feels any earthly desires.  If this be the case, he is not only filled with the Light but also Life. Bolvar’s body was not destroyed by the fire, it was corrupted by the plague. Which was then purged (or purified) by dragon fire.

His eyes shine the color of that fire. He may no longer be human but he did not become something less, he became something more, and evidence supporting his becoming more. The Helm was Silver when it was frozen alone in the Ice, the Helm was silver when Arthas, the Deathknight freed it and claimed it giving him his Azure eyes. The Helm turned golden a color of purity known by many, when Bolvar, a Purified Paladin, donned the Helm giving him eyes the color of Alexstraza the Lifebender’s Fire.

6. Now, will we see Bolvar again when we confront Kil’Jaeden and Sargerous? Who knows, but perhaps the one forced to now control the scourge might want end the power that first created them.

Finally, a few points without evidence but might be interesting if it were to happen.

a. The Scourge may become friendly or stay neutral to everyone. (When and if Bolvar awakes)

b. Now that we have a good Cap’n at the helm (Sorry for the pun) perhaps the outward appearance of all scourge will become less horrific (Ala Pirates 3 At World’s End, when Will Turner became captain of the Flying Dutchman at the end)

c. The Knights of the Ebon Blade rejoin the Scourge as Bolvar’s knights.

Hope you enjoyed reading this. And great podcast, keep it up!
