A New Start

Confession time. Raiding on my Warlock has become tiresome. I’ve raided with him from the beginning of the Burning Crusade and throughout WOTLK. We’ve braved the depths of Black Temple, explored the haunted hallways of Karazan, tested our mettle against the worst that Northrend has to offer in TOC, and taken the fight to the door of the Lich King in ICC. I’m well versed in the many different Warlock talent builds, used to slightly altering my play style each time a new patch comes out and I’m an old hand at grousing when my group makeup isn’t just right. It may be time to trade up mains.

There is hope on the horizon though and that hope (as odd as it may read), will be Cataclysm. Players often use expansions to switch up their main character. TBC saw the emergence of many new Draeni Shamans and Blood Elf Paladins, and WOTLK saw the explosion of Death Knights on every server. Cataclysm will be a chance for many people to change up their class once again. I’ve got a few thoughts poking around in the back of my head as to what I’ll change to…it involves a ranged pet class. Maybe its just the grass is greener on the other side but it seems that Hunters experience less instability than other classes do (dps wise) in game. For Warlocks, we’ve gone from the top of the DPS pile to the bottom and back more times than I can count in the past few expansions. All I’m looking for is a little more stability in my overall output and new class mechanics to explore.

Anyone else thinking of changing up their class in the upcoming expansion? If you are going to change up, I’d be interested to see a short list of likes and dislikes about your current class and what about your new class seems interesting.

I’m definately going to roll a Worgen Rogue. I don’t know if it will be my main, but I’m certainly looking for a change. I’ve not played for as long as you have (just before Wrath) but I’m definately playing my main (Fury Warrior) less and less and playing my stable of alts more and more.

I’ve wanted a Worgen Rogue since I sat in the Anaheim Convention Center last August and the Worgen were announced. I always wanted to try the Rogue out, and the Worgen seems like the perfect time for me to try it out. I want to try the rogue out simply because of the stealth factor and the brutal nature of its attacks. Plus I figured the 2 best classes for teh Worgen were the warrior or the Rogue, and since I already have a warrior, might as well try the rogue.

I’ve also started a Draenei shaman (level 30 currently). And I figured I may wait for the expansion to come out before i go any further. I want to try the Shaman because I’ve never healed in raids before, and the Shaman has alot of utility and versatility that i am not used to.

I have a Human Warrior and a Draenei DK, the Warr is my main and the DK is my Alt/Toy. I enjoy my Warrior, especially for PVP. But raiding as DPS sucks because I do not like the fury tree, and Arms doesnt pump out enough dps to keep my guild happy. I do tank mostly on my warrior, but once again, I’m having threat issues that have seemed to plauge warriors throughout the entire WOTLK expansion.

The DK was refreshing, but I do not like the complicated nature of the specs. I prefer an organized spec system for my toon, like the Paladin. One spec for tanking, one spec for dps, and then another spec for PVP. I’ve still trying to figure out a good spec for my DK for tanking, PVP, and DPS. But other than that, its a fun class to play that has similar mechanics to my warrior.

you and the other trillion worgen rogues can have campfires and wonder who is going to heal and tank

There probably will be a million Rogue Worgen. There are 2 million DKs but as the expansion has shown, the cream rises to the top and the rest will have to pug or pick a new class. This probably branches into the topic of to ‘Roll or Not Roll’ the flavor of the month class. Having FoMs is good, it makes the people that have been playing a class forever and just coasting to step up when their class/spec becomes FOM.

Will I change classes? Probably not, the thing that gets overlooked that Blizz has done is shaking up the current classes before an expansion comes out. Warriors anyone? Pallies in Vanilla? Priest? Blizz has opened a lot of doors for various classes and made them seem fresh and new on a semi-regular basis. With Cataclysm it looks to be warlocks and boomkins I am suspecting with the most changes this time around. With the way Blizz does things, I am looking forward to keeping my class/spec (Disco-Priest).

The last thing, I don’t have time to go 1-85 with a new class when Cataclysm comes out, I want to get to 85 and start raiding. I will have an alt to see the starting areas though!
