Dissolution

April 28, 2010 :: Posted by - Plectical :: Category - Other, Raiding

One of the most difficult things about WoW is that to get the most out of the game play, you have to rely on other players. Usually, this isn’t such a big deal. You’ll occasionally find yourself in an instance with some disagreeable people or you’ll be involved in a raid that fizzles instead of fires. Trade chat can be an exercise in endurance, namely how disgusted can you get before you leave the channel. Outside of these events, my interactions with other players have been like my interactions with people in real life; mostly pleasant and predictable. I can rely on my favorite tank to show up for raids and I can rely on my fellow DPS to perform at the top of their game (and gently rib one another if they aren’t).

My WoW life is very much like my real life. Maybe some weeks are better than others and I make more progress towards my goals on one day than I do on another, but things are blissfully consistent. That consistently however depends on others behaving consistently as well. Again, its simply a numbers game in any raiding guild to make sure that there are warm bodies sitting in front of their computer during designated raid times. If attendance is short then you start beating the bushes for new applicants and raiders. If attendance is short over a long period of time and officers are dissatisfied with herding cats that have a million excuses, then you have a problem on your hand.

The gripes of management became my gripes on Monday morning when my guild dissolved. Typical posts that covered favorite memories and raid encounters have been posted up all week but the absence of my weekly raiding schedule has thrown me off kilter. I’m now faced with the unappetizing prospect of looking for other guilds or holding my breath and again relying on others to see if we can transition from a 25 man raiding guild to a 10 man raiding guild. Now the only consistency I have in my WoW life is the consistent disappointment I get each time a raid day passes and I don’t raid.

Any advice you all could give one way or another (stay and try the ten man route with a guild that has just suffered a major blow or throw my lot in with a group of strangers?) would be welcome.

    Only advice I can really give is to remember that your old raiding group had been strangers at one point. And a new group of strangers could introduce you to some good friends. Maybe try to keep the ten man route going, while meeting new people to get you up to 25 again.

    I would agree… the route I would take is if you have multiple end-game characters, choose one to leave the guild temporarily and join a new one. Meet a new group of people, try them out and if it works, raid with them. If you don’t like that, I would say get into recruiting, which is a bit dicey but workable. Sometimes it is hard to get into a raiding guild, but this is a great chance for you and other people to find something that works. I have jumped guilds a couple of times, between my schedule and the raiding schedules, sometimes it’s hard to find a good guild. Good luck
