WotLK Progression Statistics: Looking Forward to Cataclysm

May 15, 2010 :: Posted by - Heartbourne :: Category - Cataclysm, Raiding

Progression in ICC has been moving along at a steady rate for many guilds. The stacking buff in Icecrown Citadel that updates about once a month to add increased healing, health, and damage done allows many guilds  to do previously impassible encounters and gives them enough steam to work through many more encounters until the buff is updated. Indeed, if we look at the graphs from WoWProgress, the leading site in tracking guild progression, the mechanic of the Icecrown Citadel buff has caused a steady increase in the number of guilds defeating each encounter.

In fact, they look rather linear. In comparison, the tier 8 and 9 progression graphs are not nearly as linear. After a short burst of hardcore guilds downing content, the number of new guilds defeating the content tapers off. Additionally, many less guilds have done older content than ICC. Under the Hood: Reaching Out

May 14, 2010 :: Posted by - Cornelious0_0 :: Category - Under the Hood

Helllo Rawrcast readers, Cornelious back again to bring you another edition of Under the Hood.

Today I’m gonna be taking a short break from the norm to fill you in on what’s happening with Under the Hood over the coming weeks. I’m aware that this may not prove to be interesting for some people but I have always held the value of communication above most things, and there’s no reason to leave you guys out of the loop. As many of you may know, Under the Hood existed awhile before I was ever involved with Rawrcast. It was the initial plan of Stomp and Haf to use this segment as a way to bring PC hardware info to the Rawrcast community in a very tangible way and I was more than humbled when I was able to “take the reins” of the segment and start recording for the show. Girls in WoW

Enchants are a Girl’s Best Friend

On last week’s show, Episode 70, I mentioned my experiences playing with other women in World of Warcraft. I seemed to have stirred some interested. Quite a few listeners have written in, and messaged me on twitter. I thought it might be of value to share with you an experience that is a clue to my tainted view of female gamers.

The GL’s GF

While back on Llane, while playing my warlock, Hafrot and I were in separate guilds. He was in a higher tier of raid content than I was, but I was raiding more often. I found a guild on our server that had the right raid schedule for me, and I joined with little concern.

After two weeks of raiding Molten Core and Zul’Gurub I had grown relaxed with the casual atmosphere of the guild. I didn’t know it at the time, but he Guild Leader’s real-life girlfriend was also in the guild, and she didn’t like my up front demeanor.

Then, one night while leveling an alt I whispered her about something or other. She responded with, “I don’t like you, I don’t want to help you. Please don’t whisper me.” Or, something to that effect. Needless to say, I quickly packed my bags and left, while laughing and shaking my head at the poor Guild Leader who had to deal with such an insecure bitch of a girlfriend.

Now, if that instance right there hadn’t convinced me that women who game can be slightly less than friendly, I have had other similar occasions to support my theory.

Still Impressed

Regardless of whether my experiences have been isolated, random acts of bitchiness, or a greater trend among female gamers, the women I play with now continue to impress me. Recently, we had a female pally main tank who’s ballsy no BS nature began to show me that there are other chicks like me. Chicks who don’t mind being called a chick. They are out there, and they are all still impressing me with their play style, expereince, and value as guild members.

An Interview with Jack, Former GM of Irate Pirates

May 11, 2010 :: Posted by - Plectical :: Category - Guilds, Other

A quick introduction before we jump in.  One day I was casually talking to a coworker about our favorite game experiences and I shared a few of my favorite raiding moments.  Jack got a paranoid look in his eye, gave a quick look around the room and started to tell me about his time as a GM.  I found the conversation, and his experiences in Vanilla WoW, very interesting so I decided to do an interview.  Hope you enjoy!

Plec: Before we get started, lets get a brief synopsis on your history in WoW. You spent a long time as a Guild Leader on the Llane server in Vanilla WoW? What type of guild did you start and what was being a guild leader like back in the time of 40 man raid content?

Jack: That’s right, a few friends and I founded the Irate Pirates on Llane the week the game opened. There was five or six of us to start and we had to bribe people on the bridge into Stormwind to sign our charter. I think we were paying something like 10 silver per signature because that is all we could afford. We didn’t really know what kind of guild we wanted to be, we didnt really have any clue what the end game would look like at that point. All we knew is that we wanted a guild that felt like a friendly place. We didnt put restrictions on levels or gear back then. The one rule we had was basically “don’t be a dick”. Read more…

Under the Hood: Process This!

May 08, 2010 :: Posted by - Cornelious0_0 :: Category - Other, Under the Hood

Helllo again Rawrcast readers, Cornelious back again to bring you another installment of Under the Hood.

Today my plan is to sit down with you and dispel some common processor (CPU) myths surrounding today’s technology. My goal is never to become so technical that I alienate half of our listeners and/or readers so if there is any more technical information you’re after please leave a comment on the post or stick an email in our Huge Sack and I’m sure I’ll get the message. Aside from attempting to clear the air on a few topics today I’ll be comparing the latest CPU’s available from both AMD and Intel, pointing out some pros and cons to each and highlighting some key points to keep in mind if you should find yourself in the market for a new processor. Chewing Glass

May 05, 2010 :: Posted by - Stompalina :: Category - Guilds, PVE, Raiding

When I say ‘chewing glass’, I’m referring to the activity of trying something very difficult over and over and over until you get it right. The hope is that once you are successful, you will be better able to repeat the success the next time you try.

“Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results”

– Albert Einstein

We have all been in the situation. You wipe on a boss, head back in, and start over again real quick.  The inclination is that you hop right back in and try again and hope it goes better. There may have been a chance occurrence that caused you to fail in the previous attempt and people say “just get better”. You may also feel that because you are limited by time you need to get as many “attempts” in as you possibly can so that you get more experience. For example, say it is already getting late and your raid is going to end in 30 minutes so you group up and buff as fast as you can and try again. Read more…
