Diary of a Community Fan Part 2
November 18, 2010 :: Posted by - Fondre :: Category - BlizzCon, Community
Welcome back to my coverage of BlizzCon and the after hours community events. Today is the first day of Blizzcon and the second night of events. You can catch up with the first article here.
Day One: Friday BlizzCon 2010
We start our day with the opening ceremonies. Why release the trailer for Cataclysm when BlizzCon is one week away? Demon Hunter Rocks though. Overall I would agree with most that Blizzard blew the proverbial load early on. So we move on to the rest of today’s happenings.
My wife, Laviolet, wants a book and autograph from Christie Golden, so does Eulixe, I hate BlizzLines, so I don’t go. Stompalina needs to go to the House of Blues for The Raid set up and informs me The Wych has a spot open at the Diablo 3 panel. I’m cool with that, the highlight of the opening ceremony was the Demon Hunter and I want to know more.
I Met up with The Wych and busted his balls why the #1 show in Australia can’t plop their chairs on the stage, cause front row is for amateurs. The Diablo panel was great, love snakes to the face, zombie bears and how much WoW hunters would be bitching about not dual wielding crossbows for months to come.
The Wych and his rockstar status means he has a press pass and gets me into the floor level press area for some of the panels. The press area is full and over flowing by the time the costume/dance contest starts. I am sure my time here is through until I overhear ‘the boss of the boss’ say, “oh, he is with Rawrcast.” (Thanks Haf and Stomp!) and I am safe to enjoy the best part of Day 1. I enjoy seeing a guy break his leg but love the Spirit of Redemption costumes, Hogger gets screwed again.
The day was great, and I had a blast hanging with The Wych.
Night One: BlizzCon 2010 Friday
The Rawr Crew met up at Curse’s VIP Party. We took some time to talk about our first day and what we thought. The Curse guys/gals have a great set up at Fire/Ice and welcome the Rawr Crew with open arms.
My Curse after party moment is meeting Robin Thorsen (Clara from The Guild). She was the nicest person and hope she loved the attention we gave her. She hung out for a few and let us geek out with her. Laviolet informed me she also met Ox-horn, and that he also rocks.
Our next stop was the Twisted Nether Blogcast Meetup, if I thought what we did before was an experience, this was going to take it up a notch. While I knew of TNB, Laviolet is a huge fan of them and World of Warcast. She got to meet the people that helped her learn to love her mage, and when your wife raids, the wife aggro is non-existent. I owe them a huge personal thanks.
The TNB meet up became a who’s who of the community, podcasters, bloggers and people inspired by Blizzard to start a business around Warcraft. TNB’s guests included Mike Schramm, Turpster, Big Crits, Kenjioba (and company) from WootLoots, Starman and many many more. TNB created the atmosphere that BlizzCon was meant for. Thanks TNB and everyone else there for a great time and loot!
Our night ended at IHOP, not the IHOP across the street from our hotel but the one 45 kilometers down the street. Apparently certain foreigners believe walking is good for you. For that walk, I got to explain to The Wych that in Australia you can go out of your house and start boxing a kangaroo anytime of the day. Along with that fact, Braveheart is factually correct when it comes to the Lore of Scotland, Eulixe. Next time remember, I don’t eat when drunk.
Next, Part 3: I need a job at The GAP, I am emo of 12 million and Redbull Vodka.
