Well, here comes another expansion… This one being my 3rd, I decided what would be better than comparing experiences and feelings I had about the three, ever so different, expansions. So let’s take a moment to reminisce about Vanilla Warcraft and Burning Crusade. After that, we shall take a visit to adventures in Wrath of the Lich King, and finally I want to share what has happened so far in prep for Cataclysm.

Vanilla WoW to Burning Crusade
The original WoW will always be my favorite. I have such fond memories from 40-man raids in AQ40. Running NON-STOP battle grounds, praying I didn’t have to skip a day of PVP so my honor didn’t deteriorate from not getting as much as the week before;spamming the crap out of chat trying to get some kind of group together within an hour to run Deadmines. I remember the forum wars between Alliance and Horde about how paladins and Shamans were over-powered, because one or the other couldn’t have them. Then comes the release of BC, and with it a whole bunch more fun. Two new races were introduced in the Blood Elves and Draenei, along with both sides getting the Paladin and Shaman classes. Not to mention the ability to FLY!!! This expansion found me sitting in line at midnight on release for maybe the nerdiest experience of my life. I remember things throughout its life introduced in the patches like the daily quests that helped money flow and that horrible lag infestation that was voice chat. Most important for me, at the time, was the arena and the new battlegrounds because I was huge into PVP during most of BC. Read more…

Today I plan on taking a departure from the norm, I’m not going to be directly talking about World of Warcraft, instead, I want to talk about something near and dear to my heart, SWTOR (Star Wars The Old Republic). So sit back, relax, grab your favorite beverage for a (self proclaimed) compelling look at SWTOR.
Announced just shy of two years ago, we began salivating over what very well could be the (way to commonly thrown around phrase) “WoW killer” and if speculative talk is true about how much cash has gotten poured into SWTORs development is accurate, it had better be! So unless you have been living under a rock for the last couple years, you’re aware that the juggernaut in the single player RPG arena known as Bioware, is throwing its proverbial hat into the arena of the MMO world. The past week has been the equivalent of a “Sleeper Expansion”, an expansion that crept up on everyone and changed the world of Azeroth as we know it. Just like the world was crammed with Death Knights in the last expansion, this Sleeper Expansion has filed the world with Dwarf Shamans, Tauren Paladins and Human Hunters (so many human hunters). Players have returned to the Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor in droves, scooping up new zone achievements and marveling at the new content. I couldn’t be more pleased with the changes that have come to the game.
The one thing that I’m still trying to determine is whether or not I’ll be focusing on my main when the expansion comes out or if I’m going to focus on leveling new characters. One part of me wants to get Plectical into tip top raiding form as quickly as possible while another part of me is drooling to level a Worgen. What are your plans? Focus on your main or level up an alt first? One parting note; there is some small part of me that feels that I’d be abandoning Plectical if I focus on a Worgen first (but I’m a sentimental old man).
