This special episode of Rawrcast focuses on Stomp’s long-time love affair with the Warlock class. Stomp welcomes her friend, Nibuca from Mystic Chicanery and Twisted Nether Blogcast, along with Hinosilin (Rusty) and Darkchrono from the #1 US Guild – EXODUS. Together we we reviewed the basics of the class, spec, gear, stat choices, and look further into raiding mechanics, utility, tips, tricks and stories. We also addressed a few listener e-mails on the subject of pets and upcoming changes being discussed for Cataclysm, along with changes we would like to see in the game. Read more…

The Hunter, Mongojerry’s, list for Greatfather Winter
Hello Greatfather Winter, I really hope that you saw how good I was this year. I actually didn’t kill too many things considering that I spent a solid 9 months treading water off the coast of Stranglethorn Vale. The best part of getting out of the water was drying off by the fire in the inn, and getting some real rest.
I know that I ended up in the water because of some strange phenomenon called lag. For my first request I would like this lag issue to go away. Please Greatfather Winter, make the game a little more forgiving when it comes to lag. There are quite a few instances and raids, like the safety dance, where even 250 ms of lag will get you killed if you are not careful. Now, I am not going to even try to understand the game mechanics that are involved with a jabillion players, mobs and critters to keep track of in the game. All I know is lag sucks and even with a strong connection, there are nights where the game is unplayable. Read more…

A long time ago, in a realm far, far away before the kinky psychedelic world of Outland or the Gothic S&M feel of Northrend, there was a place known as Vanilla. Back in those days, a paladin was balanced around his ability to heal. More specifically, he was balanced around his ability to heal and to heal as equally as the shamans who were members of the opposite faction. It may not have been balance in the way we think of balance now, but within the parameters established by the class model by the good ol’ boys on the original WoW development team, they were as balanced as any paladin could hope.
In fact, they weren’t just balanced; they were OP in some ways. They were phenomenal healers with nasty mana sustainability because back in those days if you crit a heal, you didn’t get 30% of the mana cost back like you do now. Hell you didn’t get 60% of the mana cost like you used to before 3.2. A paladin received 100% of the mana back for every healing spell that crit. Of course, like the warrior dilemma today, paladins were up against an invisible wall that once they climbed, never had to worry about mana again. If you read any of Rossi’s Care and Feeding over at wow.com, you might find similarities between holy paladins and dps warriors. Read more…
Confession time, I moonlight as a tank. That’s right, when i get bored of communing with Demonic Spirits and defending my choice of apparel (it’s not a skirt, it’s a robe!), I blow the dust off my Death Knight Tank. My tank is a well kept secret because…well, I’m not the best tank and I have a reputation to uphold (don’t judge, I’m sure all of you have secret characters as well). I’m sure I’d be better with more practice but the majority of my time is spent on my Warlock (raiding, questing and instances, the lock always gets priority).
Succumbing to Toon Neglect Syndrome (a disorder that has yet to be identified by the American Psychological Society), I gave my caster a well deserved breather and decided that I was going to have a Tankathon of a weekend. I read a couple threads on Elitist Jerks to re-familiarize myself with rotations and cooldowns and went of the plunge.
My first groups of the day were a rousing success. I managed to pick up a handful of upgrades from regular TOC; namely, the Black Heart and a spiffy new pair of boots. All things considered, I had held aggro pretty well, my survivability wasn’t an issue (Indestructible Potions were invaluable) and my DPS wasn’t too shabby. Time for some heroics. Read more…

As we all know, William Shatner is a shaman, and we all, no doubt, are wondering, “how do I hurl bolts of lightning?” Early in 3.1, one of the shaman complaints surrounding their drop in DPS was the cooldown of lava burst. Many shadow priests have a similar complaint with their lack of an on demand direct damage ability. They also have to wait for what can feel like eons between casts of their mind blast. There is relief on the horizon as 3.3 looks to test the effect of haste on DoTs and HoTs.
The Symphony of Healers
A good raid healing team really is a thing of beauty. Imagine Beethoven’s 5th or the Brandenburg Concertos being played but instead of the glorious music, you are watching a screen of green heals bombarding your monitor. There is a rhythm to healing and syncing up your rhythm with the other members of your healing team is one of the most important aspects of raid healing. If you druid raid heal like Stomp, you know your role has always been tempo. You are the underlying carrier of the healing symphony. It becomes the job of the other healers to drop in their massive heals at a moments notice if you are low on a GCD, and conversely, for you to ease the pain of the tank healers with a HoT or two if you have the time and mana.
